Obama’s Election: A Victory for All of Us

There are many reasons to celebrate the election of Barack Obama as our next President. Our nation has taken a great step toward inclusion and racial equality and restoring civil liberties. We will have a President who believes in science and who cares about the environment and the interests of all people, not just the wealthy. And the election was a great victory for peace — the American people voted to end the war in Iraq and to approach Iran diplomatically, not militarily. South Mountain Peace Action looks forward to helping build community support for turning these election-day victories into national policy.

All NJ Dem Reps Oppose Funding Bill

Congress Act.jpgNew Jersey’s Senators Frank Lautenberg and Bob Menendez were among 24 Senators who voted for the Feingold amendment which called for withdrawal of most US troops from Iraq in 9 months. The NJ Senators were also among 17 co-sponsors of the Feingold amendment. Lautenberg and Menendez also voted for the Levin amendment and they voted against the McConnell amendment to provide funds without conditions.
Congressmen Donald Payne and Bill Pascrell, and New Jersey’s five other Democratic Congressmen voted against the Senate bill that was returned to the House with $70 billion McConnell amendment attached.
